US and Honduras working together will improve people’s lives and livelihoods.

Job creators of Honduras and Founding Members of the HUGE (Honduras, USA, Guatemala, and El Salvador) Business and Investment Council applaud President Biden’s Root Causes Strategy and the Call to Action and welcome Vice President Harris to Honduras. “We reaffirm to VP Harris and the international community that we want to work together in strengthening institutions, providing sustainable solutions to minimize negative impacts on the environment and in creating opportunities for people to have the American Dream at home, as well as consolidating the economic ties between the Northern Triangle countries and the USA,” states HUGE in its welcoming press release.

HUGE, a non-profit 501(c)(6) based in Washington, DC, is bringing economic prosperity to the Northern Triangle through private sector investment and has proudly assembled an inventory of nine projects in its first year, thanks to the leadership of its Founding members. This $1.88 billion will create approximately 160,000 new jobs in the Northern Triangle region and the United States. Together with Vice President Kamala Harris’ recent announcement, this brings total investment in the region to $2.7 billion. Investments in manufacturing facilities, competitive energy, US 5G technology, roads, ports, education, and technology are key priorities.

“HUGE business leaders from Honduras are committed to an inclusive and sustainable way of creating opportunities for all and are ready to continue to work together with the USA and newly elected President Xiomara Castro,” said HUGE’s Executive Director, Greg Huger. This release is on the occasion of the visit to Honduras of the US Vice President, for the inauguration of the newly elected President of Honduras.

“The voice of civil society is heard by us in the private sector loud and clear. At HUGE, we want to make sure that all our investments have a positive and sustainable impact on the lives and livelihoods of the people of our countries”, stated HUGE Founder Lorena Maduro, who represents Inversiones La Paz and is the CEO of Solvenza.

Similarly, Camilo Atala, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Grupo Financiero Ficohsa said with great enthusiasm, “Inclusive financing and new technology-based instruments are being developed to further support small and medium size enterprises. This is a priority in our work at the HUGE Business and Investment Council.”

COVID and economic tensions between the US and China have created new opportunities for manufacturing, as well as other trade, logistics and industrial activities to move from Asia to our region. “We have great opportunities in front of us because of supply chain disruptions, which should encourage the US and other international industries to move their operations to the Northern Triangle countries of Central America. Here in Honduras, we are open for business”, acknowledged Jesus Canahuati, President of Elcatex Group and Founding Member of HUGE.

Daniel Facusse, President of the Board of Directors of Caracol Knits and HUGE Founder also confirmed, “HUGE is developing three new state of the art yarn plants that will process 100% USA cotton integrating the textile supply chain of the Americas and making the region self-sufficient in Ring Spun Yarn, which previously mainly came from Asia. This is an example of how a successful partnership between the USA and Honduras can create sustainable jobs.”

“We are extremely proud of the positive impact SanMar’s employees and partners make in communities across the US and the Northern Triangle. Every decision we make is rooted in our commitment to creating positive change and we intend to continue investing and growing in order to create meaningful jobs across the entire region. We thank Vice President Harris for her efforts and hard work in supporting our work towards this shared goal,” said Renton Leversedge, HUGE Founder and Chief Development Officer of US-based SanMar Corporation.

“History has shown us that when the private sector, public sector and civil society have a common goal, stronger and long-lasting relationships can be produced,” stated from Washington, DC, Dr. Juan J. Daboub, President of HUGE.
