On June 7th, Executive Director of HUGE, Greg Huger participated in a Congressional session held in Washington DC. The session focused on the involvement of the industrial sector of Guatemala as a means to curb irregular immigration to the United States. The event was well-attended by esteemed Senators and Congressmen including Bill Cassidy, Mike Lee, James Lankford, Gary Palmer, Henry Cuellar, Ken Buck, John Moolenaar, Vicente Gonzalez, Lou Correa, Bill Johnson, Tracey Mann, Tony Gonzales, and Tim Burchett. During the session, Greg emphasized the importance of keeping CAFTA-DR intact, advocated for more DFC activity in the Northern Triangle region, and highlighted the need for depoliticization of US development agencies. Additionally, productive side meetings were held with CACIF, CIG, and US Guatemala Business Council leadership to discuss their participation in a toy industry “roadshow” and possible development of nearshoring in the pharmaceutical industry, specifically with rubber-based medical devices, as well as in the agribusiness industry, including rubber and fruit and vegetable products.
